The size of a brush is indicated by a number printed on the handle. Brushes start fromthen go to 00, 0, 1, 2, and up. The higher the number, the bigger or wider the brush. Unfortunately, there is little consistency between brush manufacturers as to what these sizes actually are, so the size of a No.

Believe it or not, both brushes in the photo are size No. Admittedly, the difference in size isn't usually so extreme; these two brushes were chosen specifically to illustrate the point. If you're buying brushes from a catalog or online and it's a brand you're not familiar with, check to see if there's an indication of the actual width of the brushes in inches or millimeters.

Don't just go by the brush size number. Not only do different brands of art paintbrush vary in size even when they're supposedly the same as indicated by the numberbut also in thickness. If you're buying brushes from a catalog or online, remember to consider this if you're not familiar with a particular brand of brush. If you're painting with watercolor or very fluid paint, a thick brush will hold considerably more paint.

This enables you to paint for longer without stopping. But if you want a brush for dry-brush techniques, you may well want a brush that holds less paint. When choosing a brush, examine each part of it. All the variabilities can affect your work. The handle of a brush is most often made from wood that's painted or varnished, but it can also be made from plastic or bamboo. The length is variable, from really short such as those in travel paint boxes to really long ideal for big canvases.

What's more important than length is that the brush feels balanced in your hand. You're going to be using it a lot, so it needs to be comfortable to hold. What bristles or hairs are in a brush is also variable, depending on what the brush is intended for. Most important is that they're firmly held and aren't going to fall out constantly as you paint. But what shape should you go for?

What about all the various sizes? Is natural or synthetic hair best? Between these and all the different manufacturers, there are hundreds of watercolour brushes to choose from. It can be daunting and invariably leads to you spending more money than you need to 'just to be sure'. As a newcomer or if you've been painting a while and you're not happy with your resultsyou need to keep to a limited range of watercolour materials.

That means just a handful of brushes. Fewer materials will help you improve faster. We can't really talk about brush size without talking about brush type or shape. For example, round brushes are simply numbered with a 1 round being very small and a 20 round being very large whereas flat brushes are measured in inches. There's the added complication that brushes sizes can be inconsistent between manufacturers. For example, a 10 round brush by one manufacturer might be larger or smaller than a 10 made by another manufacturer.

Don't worry though, it's not as confusing as it sounds and I'll tell which sizes I recommend below. And don't feel silly asking the store owner for a jar of water for this purpose! The bristles may be made out of natural or synthetic materials, while the handle is usually made out of plastic or wood. When cosmetics are applied using the appropriate brush, they blend better onto the skin. There is a large variety of shapes and sizes of makeup brushes, depending on the face area where makeup will be applied, the cosmetic product and the wanted result.

For example, the shape of the brush tip can be chiseled, straight, angular, round, flat or tapered. Makeup application can alter due to the materials used to create a brush.

The bristles of a makeup brush can either be synthetic or natural. In the application of the makeup, the brush itself is important because it can determine how the product is applied: depending on the makeup brush type and its bristles, it could either densely pack or loosely apply the makeup product. Synthetic bristles are the most common material used in makeup brushes. These brushes are widely found in drugstores and makeup-specific stores. The bristles are made out of plastic, nylonor other synthetic fibers, and may be dyed.

Synthetic bristles are often used with liquid and cream products, as they tend to blend out products more easily and will not absorb product as much as a natural bristle brush. Synthetic brushes usually last longer than natural haired bristles as they do not degrade and are not as fragile.

The natural bristled brushes best applies powder products and it is best to avoid liquid or cream products as they will drink up most of the products.

Although natural bristles are more preferred in the cosmetic industry, the bristles themselves can cause allergic reactions to the animal hair. Natural bristles may more easily control the product when blending out or even packing on a product, because they have hair cuticles. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. But, all the different kinds of artist brushes which are available can sometimes only add confusion to the painting process, rather than making it easier. In this post, I discuss the different kinds of artist paint brushes which are available for you to use.

Artist brushes come with many different types of bristles. The bristles will generally determine what medium a brush is suitable for. For example, oil painting requires bristles which are resilient and have a nice spring.

Acrylic paint is not as harsh so you can use bristles which are a bit finer. Watercolor painting requires soft bristles which can hold lots of water. Animal hair brushes tend to be more expensive but they can hold and apply paint in a way which is not possible with synthetic brushes. However, synthetic brushes have come a long way. I make use of both synthetic and animal hair brushes for my paintings.

Synthetic : Economical and versatile options for all painting mediums. Most synthetic brush manufactures will combine synthetic bristles with animal bristles so you get the best of both worlds. I would avoid cheap synthetic brushes as they are not durable and lose shape quickly. Hog hair brushes tend to do most of the heavy lifting in oil painting due to their durability and stiffness. I enjoy using hog hair brushes for general oil painting work, but not so much for the finer details.

Sable : Not actually made from sable hair but rather from the tail of a species of mink a member of the weasel family found in North-Eastern China and Siberia. Squirrel : Very soft hair with little snap due to a lack of resistance. Squirrel hair is suitable for watercolor painting, inking and any other low-resistance mediums. Badger : A popular hair for oil painting.I find that for face painting, I prefer the shorter handles. My most used sizes are the 1, 2, 4, and 5.

If you like designs with bold teardrop shapes, you may want to invest in a few 8, 10, or 12 round brushes.

It comes in various sizes, and the one I use most is a 2 or 3. I use the liner for outlining masks or dragons. Again, I keep three of these so I have one for white, one for black, and one for any other color I may need. Since speed is important to a face painter, you should have a good variety of these brushes. They are similar except that the bright has shorter bristles so that the length of the bristles is about equal to the width of the brush.

You might notice a bright referred to as a chisel bright or a chisel blender from some art suppliers.

Other brushes may also be made in this way, but because of it, you can pull the brush to the side and create a slender line with the tip of the bristles. Another popular brush which you should have on hand is the filbert. The filbert is like a flat brush, but the tip of the bristles is curved rather than straight across. This makes it great for curved edges. A double filbert has two rounded portions on the end which are side by side, making it good for flower petals.

Long bristled filberts are called egberts. The term chisel really just describes the way the bristles are set in the brush, not what type of brush it is. Keep in mind that this is consistent with the fine art brush definition, but not the makeup brush definition. Chisel brushes for applying regular makeup look different.

The angle brush is like the flat brush, but the bristles are cut at an angle so they are shorter on one side and longer on the other. The angle of a dagger brush is much more acute than that of an angle brush.

It has a beautiful point which makes excellent whiskers. The fan brush excels at the look of fur. The wisp brush can take the basic form of a flat brush, angle brush, filbert, or fan, but some of the bristles have been trimmed short at intervals, allowing it to make several parallel lines at once when the loaded brush is dragged across a surface. And of course, you can use standard makeup brushes for applying paint.

It's effecting when you need to put down a beautiful, even layer of color over large area. Happy painting! Stop by Clownantics.

Another thing Amazon does well is to use my reviews to recommend other products that I may like in the future. So by reviewing products, I am helping myself to discover other products that I'd like to buy.

Although I'm helping Amazon sell me more stuff by doing so, I still do it. It's a win-win for Amazon, and useful for me as a customer. Before going to market with a product, bringing together a focus group is an essential step for gathering feedback. Once you've got that data then publish it, write a blog post about it and share your findings. Collect data from customers and turn it into graphs and data sets to show on an Infographic. It's ideal for presenting lots of good customer data in one go.

Here's an example of all the aggregated reviews on Yelp that you could do on a smaller scale:Run a poll across your site to get customer feedback and then add this data into a comparison so people can see how you stack up against competitors. A good example is: Anti-Spyware Reviews An obvious step, but one that is missed a lot. Let people write reviews directly onto your website (it works for any product, not just for e-commerce stores). You'll also find your product pages rank higher by having more unique content.

I've written reviews before simply because I wanted to get either a tweet or a link from a major company to my own blog and I'm sure I can't be the first person to do this. If you take the best reviews you can find and link to them, it makes customers feel great and other people may then write about you in order to get similar coverage. In other words, give me your product for free so I can write about it.

Alternatively for customers who write a review, you could give them money-off future purchases. This is a bad tactic that can only backfire in the long run.

I want to feel motivated to write about you, not like I'm being paid off. There are sites where you can pay people for reviews (see below) but please don't ask for only good reviews unless you want to get stung like Belkin.

I could talk forever about the benefits of free stuff (and usually do). In short, having free samples to give away increases the number of voices talking about your product. Head and Shoulders now lets anyone request a free sample. Likewise if you allow people to test your service for a short amount of time, or let them try a simpler version of your product at a cheaper or freemium price, it gets more people discussing your product.

For offline products, that can't reach their customers after a sale has been made, make it as easy as possible for customers to get in touch with you. Customer service numbers, address details and email addresses on the back of a product help make this easy. Log everything and if a customer says anything positive ask for permission to replicate it on your website.

Having people review your product earns you a silver medal, but having people bring you extra sales is the only way to get gold. If past customers bring you sales through reviews, create offers to give them either money or other bonuses. This way you'll get sales through word of mouth and extra customers. Consider the places your customers would go online to write reviews (or cheat and search for where your competitors have them) and make sure you have a profile on that site. Otherwise potential reviewers have to go and make one for you or may not be able to leave feedback at all. Qype, Ciao and other review websites have stickers that brands can display in their store, and badges they can use on websites that ask people to review the product.
